The Area

The traditional little hamlet of La Petite Breuille is situated right in the heart of the unspoilt and gentle rolling hills of the Charente countryside, famous for its micro-climate of long, warm, sunny summer days.

The Charente offers an exciting variety of activities and trips to suit all members of the family, we have some of the most beautiful lakes with perfect sandy beaches, sailing and windsurfing, lots of rivers for canoeing down, caves to explore, horse riding, golf, cycling and walks in the woods. Other days out include Futuroscope, Monkey Valley, Adventure Park, Velo Rail and of course the historic distilleries at Cognac.

We are an easy days drive from the French ports or just an hours drive from the airports of either Poitiers or Limoges.

We are situated just east of the beautiful city of Angouleme, the capital of the Charente, which hosts a variety of international events throughout the year, ranging from cartoon festivals to vintage street car racing through the city ramparts.

For the vintage car racing enthusiasts, or indeed anyone who enjoys classic cars, this year's Circuit des Remparts will take place on the 14th, 15th and 16th of September 2012, details of which can be found at www.circuit-des-remparts.com/ . Flights to Limoges or Poitiers, with a long weekend break at Chez Charente, will allow enthusiasts to follow the full weekend racing and rallies through the beautiful city of Angouleme

Should you wish to explore the local area though, we are within easy reach (3 miles) of Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure, a traditional French market town, where there is a small market every Wednesday and Saturday. Enjoy the delicious local produce at the boulangerie-patisserie and charcuterie, or just sit and have a coffee whilst watching the world go by in the shadow of the 14th century Church.

Alternatively, La Rochefoucauld, a pretty bustling riverside town, is only 5 miles away. Here you can visit the glorious Chateau or spoil yourself with some of their famous chocolates. Both towns have a selection of shops and good restaurants.
